Day 12 – Two Are Better

Keep looking in the mirror, and don’t forget to find a mirror friend who’s also walking the road to freedom. We were not meant to walk this road alone, and Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 reminds us of that. Your mirror friend will see your transformation long before you will. Just recently I had a conversation with a dear friend who I’ve only known for about nine months. I’ve coached her, and she has also coached me. Over these past nine months, she and I have been taking a course through our church called Women’s Leadership Development Institute (or WLDI), and it has been a source of personal and professional growth.

Over these past few months, we’ve had speakers, homework, classwork and opportunities to build lasting friendships with the leadership team and each other. My friend and I have a standing appointment each Sunday evening to chat about the previous week, the upcoming week, and our prayer needs. We pray for and with each other often. Whether it’s a quick phone call, a bible verse, a timely devotional, or a text, we carve out time to communicate throughout the week. I am my sister’s keeper, and she is mine.

Last week, she shared a word with me after returning home from church service. She said that something about me changed after I cut my hair. Of course, I asked for clarification because I wanted to be clear about what my mirror friend had seen. Worthy of note — I’d been growing my natural hair for 10 years, so I had a lot of it. When I cut it in February, many people who saw me said I looked so much younger. Though my friend agreed, she said she saw something more.

You appear more confident. There’s an ease about you. Your smile is brighter. It’s as if your power was in your hair — like Samson. Now that you’ve surrendered your power source, you are seeing God’s power in its full effect.

That was powerful! Spend some time with your mirror friend this week, and ask if s(he) has noticed a change in you. My prayer is that God will do a deep and thorough work in your life so that you can surrender everything that keeps you in bondage. Soon there will be no doubt in anyone’s mind who you represent. May blessings abound! <3
